I'm Back in Italy - Walking Down Memory Lane of My Expat Life in Italy

Returning to Italy after years brings a mix of nostalgia and fresh experiences. Revisiting familiar streets and noting changes really highlights the passage of time. This country, once my home and now a place full of memories, offers a comforting familiarity.

Rovigo, my "hometown" and a place I’m legally tied to as an Italian citizen, blends the past and present beautifully. The unique emotions tied to coming back here are intense. Seeing old friends and experiencing local cuisine that I missed while living in Portugal—it's a treat. From the taste of pizza to the feel of the streets, it’s all so distinctively Italian.

It’s not just about nostalgia; it’s about reconnection. Spending time with friends like my "pizza dealer" Andrea and his sister Vale, and working with Marco Permunian on the Italian Citizenship Podcast and the Italian Real Estate Podcast have made this time in Italy even more special.

Reflecting on the differences between Italy and Portugal, especially the food, really makes me appreciate Italy's unique culinary culture. The pizza here, for instance, is unmatched. This return trip is a vivid reminder of the deep connection I feel to this place and its sensory experiences.

Despite the changes and the passage of time, Rovigo remains a significant part of my life. The familiar streets, the sound of cicadas (even as much as I may not be a fan of that sound), and the community here create to a rich experience of coming home.
